Kitchen Garden Classes Have Started At Carrum

Chopping demonstration

This week we commenced our first kitchen classes as part of our involvement in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. We are very lucky to have such passionate Kitchen and Garden Specialists in Elise and Jane, working with our children. We still have gaps in our volunteer roster for our kitchen classes, so if you are available for 90 mins on Mon, Tue or Wed, please let Jane know. You don’t need to know anything about cooking, but just need to have a love of working with kids in the kitchen.

Australian Food

Grade 1/2 have been very busy this fortnight, many students have been cooking in their kitchens and creating treats to rival MasterChef. Each day a new Australian treat has appeared in a range of Tupperware containers; lamingtons, vegemite sangers, pavlova, damper, Koala Bruces Biscuits (Aston) and Kyle in a Billabong (aka teddy bear biscuits in jelly – we don’t suggest eating our students…). Mrs Dudley, Mrs Donnelly, Miss C and Miss Thomas have all sampled extensively and we’re very impressed with the initiative students have shown in their presentations. We look forward to collecting all our recipes and making a super Australian Grade 1/2 Recipe Book.  Thank you Mum’s and Dad’s for your support with our budding Jamie Olivers.
