Carrum PS taps into the amazing potential of Design Thinking to challenge our students in their Inquiry and STEAM sessions. The ‘Design & Agency‘ Framework developed by our school (see below) encourages our students to be fearless, creative and curious as they explore the world around them and the positive impact they can make.

Using our Design & Agency Framework to guide their research and development pathway, an amazing team of Grade 5/6 students in 2023 came THIRD in the International Biomimicry Youth Design Challenge.

The Biomimicry Youth Design Challenge is a project-based learning experience that asks teams to design bio-inspired ideas that can provide solutions to critical real-world problems. Our students designed a “Bird of Prey” drone to help keep our precious local waterway, Patterson River, free of rubbish. Here’s a link to the film about their amazing project – Bird of Prey
